Resumption of KQ services to Lamu
Issued at 8:00pm (Local Time), Friday 5th October, 2007
Kenya Airways will resume services to Lamu in the Northern Coast of Kenya on the 13th of October, following clearance from the Kenya Airways safety office on the runway repairs carried out by the Kenya Airports Authority.

The decision to resume services was made after an inspection team from both the Kenya Airports Authority and Kenya Airways visited the site yesterday.

Kenya Airways operates daily flight to Lamu using the 35 seater SAAB 340 planes. It will operate on the schedules outlined below, via Malindi.
FROM NAIROBI TO LAMU
KQ640 Nairobi to Malindi Departure 11:00am Arrival 12:10am
KQ640  Malindi to Lamu Departure 12:40pm Arrival  13:10pm
TO LAMU TO NAIROBI
KQ641 Lamu to Malindi Departure 13:40pm Arrival 14:10pm

Kenya Airways has taken delivery of the second of three Embraer 170 Long Range (LR) Jets. The jets will provide additional capacity at peak times to Malindi on Fridays and Sundays, effective from the 19th of October. The E170 jets will mainly operate along the coastal destinations of Mombasa, Zanzibar and Dar es Salaam.

The Embraer is configured in a comfortable single class layout, seating 72 passengers. It has four doors and three cabin crew seats and accommodates 72 passengers, four abreast, with two toilets.

In addition, Kenya Airways will once again be  one of the sponsors for the 7th edition of the Lamu Cultural Festival scheduled to take place from from Friday, 9th to Sunday, 11th November.The Festival is a showcase of the cultural and natural heritage of the Lamu archipelago.

The three day festival will showcase dhow races, traditional dances, displays of handicraft and music performances from both local artists and visiting artists sharing a united heritage. It plays an important role in preserving the unique Lamu Culture and promoting cultural tourism in Kenya.
